Panchayati Raj is a system of self-government in rural areas. The Panchayats that function as a part of it conduct administrative affairs keeping in mind the needs of the people and the development of the area. A Panchayat is a body of representatives directly elected by the people to administer the affairs of Panchayat Raj institutions.
